Proper Lighting Is Important When Reading, Why?

When you're reading through a book or a tablet (digital device screen), it's actually important to understand why the right kind of lighting is important for your reading environment.

Have you ever read in a dark room? Although this can't do permanent damage to your eyes, it does have a short-term effect. Reading in a dark room can give you a headache. So here we would like to give some tips on a healthy reading environment for you and your family:

Pay attention to screen brightness vs reading environment

If you read digitally, you have to pay attention to the lighting. Because it would be better if the lighting in the room was as bright or even brighter than the screen.  Reading from the screen of a digital device or tablet in a dark room can cause discomfort leading to lower concentration and disorientation as your eyes have to adjust between screen brightness and dimly lit environments.

Increase the lighting in your study room

Graham Strong from the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo once said that most households have significantly under lit which can cause your eyes to tire out much quicker. When reading light should be positioned to shine directly onto the page and not over your shoulder to avoid any glare.

Use a proper reading lamp.
